Acne is very common amongst many of us and is even more common in women than men. There are many things and reasons that may cause acne but basically acne is caused by the trapped dead cells, sebum (oil) and bacteria under the lining of hair follicles simply known as the skin pores.

Actually it all usually begins with blackheads which are formed by the trapped dead cells, dirt and the bacteria inside the skin pores. These bacteria block the ducts and turn black when exposed to air. Inflammation of blackheads also causes the pimples to appear and spread rapidly of touched with dirty hands. These pimples further transform into the whiteheads or pustules which eventually break leaving scars on face. So the solution to this problem is the gentle rubbing and massaging of what ever treatment you are using. Avoid hard rubbing and it will really help in preventing the inflammation.

There are many categories of acne ranging in all age groups, the causes of acne in kids, teenagers and adults are different and they all have separate solutions to them. There are several causes of adult acne it may be a hormonal disorder, stress, use of bad cosmetics and even the use of birth control pills. These hormonal disorders appear if the contraceptive pills which you are using do not suit you well resulting in acne. Bad cosmetics lead to bacteria laden pores which eventually result in acne.

All sorts of acne is a pilosebaceous unit (made up of a hair-follicle, sebaceous gland and a hair) disorder which are found everywhere on the skin except the palms, feet top, soles and the lower lips. The number of these units is greater in the face, neck and chest area. It secretes a substance known as sebum which is responsible for keeping the skin moisturized and healthy. During adolescence the sebaceous glands get enlarged and increase the secretion of sebum under the influence of a hormones namely androgens. This increased sebum results in those circumstances which give rise to adult acne. However this increased sebum production generally starts decreasing after the age of 20.

Acne and bacteria share a long term relationship with each other. Propionibacterium acnes are the bacteria who are a common inhabitant of skin. It increases in follicles during puberty and grows using sebum as a nutrient. It is the amount of these Propionibacterium acnes which causes acne. The people without acne have less of it than the ones with it. The bacteria in the skin attracts the white blood cells towards the follicles which produce an enzyme causing damage to their walls which results in inflammation and pimples.

About 80% of the teenagers suffer from acne between the age of 13 to 17. However about 5% women and 1% men continue to develop acne between the ages of 25 to up till 40. Some of the common symptoms of acne are; blackheads, whiteheads, red and yellow spots, inflamed lesions and scars.

If you have developed acne and it is not getting under control you need to buy a good treatment out of hundreds available online at any discount pharmacy and with it have to take some precautions. Never pick and squeeze any spot as it may become more inflamed and cause more severe acne. Some epilepsy medicines or steroid ointments also make acne worse; do consult the doctor for suggestions in such cases. Some cosmetic also affect acne badly their use should also be avoided during treatment. Acne may be a very common problem but surely is curable all you need is the proper guidance and the best treatment.
